Communion is an important aspect of our Christian faith. It is a time when we fully interact with the mystery of God. We received the Body and the Blood of Jesus as a promise of His forgiveness, as a proclamation of His intimate relationship with us, and as an expression of our unity with other believers. In order to receive communion we ask that you be a baptized Christian who acknowledges the need for the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. You also should believe in the real presence of Christ in this gift, and through the acceptance of it, submit your life fully to His direction and leadership. If any of this is confusing or unclear we encourage you to refrain from taking communion until you have had a chance to talk to one of the elders or pastors.
Children at BSLC are offered training in the nature of communion in 5th grade and are prepared for their first communion on Maundy Thursday. If your child is over that age or is not ready at that age, you are welcome to approach a pastor about training. If your child has received training in communion and regularly receives it at another church and is younger than 5th grade, please speak to a pastor first before you come up for communion.
Communion is offered at the morning services on the first Sunday of each month and weekly at the evening services. It is also available on an as-needed basis, from the elders or pastors if you are homebound or facing life challenges.
