Small groups are a chance to get to know people and grow in knowing God. It starts off in a laid-back environment where you simply connect with people over shared conversation, shared food, shared reading, or even shared activity. It begins with a common understanding that everyone will commit to looking out for each other’s best interest, accepting each other no matter what, and being authentic. As you spend time together, that understanding becomes felt and ingrained in your interaction, and it becomes a place where you can grow in following God in a way you haven’t been able to before. The following is a quote from a current small group member:
"I have never felt grace so powerfully than in a group of people where I didn’t have to worry whether they were pretending to like me or whether a disagreement would be the end of us. I knew they would be honest with me, and yet I had total confidence that they accepted me where I was no matter how annoying, or unkind, or unorganized, or perpetually late, or shy, or shallow, or short tempered I was, or how different of a lifestyle I led. And it is in this environment that I have seen not only grace, but change and lasting growth happen powerfully."
God uses relationships to help us grow in areas that seem impossible—areas that we gave up on long ago. He didn’t create community with others to be an optional part of our relationship with him or a crutch for the weak who can’t do it on their own. He created it to be pivotal to our relationship with Him.
