Brief highlights of the day: (Thursday, June 25th by Marty Jones)
Daycare center is wired; the roof is sheathed, the roofing is 1/2-2/3 complete; the drywall ceiling is 3/4 complete; the exterior has been painted.
The residence is framed, awaiting wiring; the roof is on.
This afternoon was the big food giveaway; 140 units were passed out to community members. Some-less-than-hospitable pre-teens added some Spanish words to the van with pointed implements.
Marty Jones writes on Tuesday evening:
Now that I'm up in our room, where the connection is better and the uproar less... Probably the big news of the day- we brought down tons of quilts and clothing donated from BSLC; but with no designated recipient. Today Patty talked with John Haff, our host, about his knowledge of where it might go. There's a nursing home in the area that started about 5 years ago...
and while it's been fairly well supported, it could really use some new stuff--- like quilts, and clothing, etc... :o) So God's hand is at work...
Greg's team got all of the trusses for both buildings finished yesterday; and today got all the walls in place for the house we're building. Tomorrow they'll set the trusses, and start on the roof...
Matt’s team has all the roof trusses in place, with the exception of the two gable ends. Tomorrow we’ll place them, start on the roof, and I’ll start wiring the daycare center. Gabby starts VBS tomorrow, and we’ll be going to church tomorrow evening. The pastor came by tonight, an MD that passed on his medical career in Mexico City because the administrators didn’t like his preaching the Gospel while helping. So, now he preaches here in the area and runs a clinic for the locals.
Most of us are sunburned, in spite of spf 500, no one has gotten hurt. A truss fell today – wind gust – with several people nearby, but no one injured.
There are 2 or 3 cats here in the compound, one of whom is keeping Judy company while I type. Barbara Ridmark[?]'s son Josiah came over tonight with friends, some of them 4 legged [I told him NO!, Tracy] and as cute as puppies can be. Dogs seem to be an important crop, here...
Everyone appears to be getting along well; no major upsets yet.
The kids are all helping as well as teenagers are able to help – short attention span. We do bible study every morning and checking in every evening. We’ve got people sleeping in the courtyard in a tent across the street in the other half compound, folks in bunk beds and Judy and I in the crow’s nest because Marty snores...
Now it’s about time for bed so that Marty can drag his body downstairs at 6 am....The kids are all helping as well as teenagers are able to help [short attention span]; we do Bible study every morning, and checking in every evening. We've got people sleeping in the courtyard, in a tent across the street in the other Haff compound, folks in bunkbeds, and Judy and I in the crow's nest because Marty snores...
Truss Day (Monday) down and Marty Jones had this to say:
